3.1 Phillip Lim Makes Debut In HK

Here’s another store that’s named after a guy and just sprouted roots in Hong Kong, right next to where I live in Harbour City, Kowloon actually. His name is Phillip Lim and he fled Cambodia with his Thai Chinese family to California where he worked a weekend job at Barneys Beverley Hills, eventually took an internship at Katayone Adeli in Los Angeles and then at 31 after winning several awards from 2005 to 2007 in the design and fashion world including the 2007 CFDA Swarovski Award in Women’s Wear, opened his first store with partner Wen Zhou also 31 in New York city. The brand 3.1 Phillip Lim has grown so much in 5 short years that he is represented in 50 countries and 400 stores and boutiques worldwide including 4 of his own flagships including 2 in Asia, one in Singapore and the other in Hong Kong.

His collections range from women’s and men’s wear to kids, accessories, shoes and underpinnings making him of the most talented and successful designers to watch out for especially as his vision is to offer designer clothes at contemporary prices. His resort collection for 2012 launches in store in Singapore and Hong Kong with a quintessential Summer wardrobe combining a mood that is fresh laid back with hints of casual utility.

He deliberately takes natural elements to the realms of artificiality by giving a leopard print a hyper real non- dimensional color treatment, or by using a texture such as pony hair as a print – giving the collection an element of hyper reality. Look out for silhouettes that have a relaxed volume with paper bagging details and gathered waists, colours and prints that are vibrant, poppy, marigold, teals and mints alongside natural tones of stone and sand. Fabrics show off custom jacquards, silks, untreated natural leathers and wooden beaded embroideries.

For more details see: www.31philiplim.com. The stores in Singapore are at Hilton Hotel #02-05/06 and in Hong Kong on the ground floor of the Gateway Arcade at Harbour City.
