Here’s something interesting to check out if you want what I call “off-Orchard Road shopping” – head to Tanjong Pagar amidst the old shop houses there and find Fuchsia Lane, a 1000 square foot boutique at 118, Tanjong Pagar Road in Singapore. The entrance of this boutique is filled with artistically hand painted plum blossoms and colourful birds and the decor is cozy and eclectically peppered with vintage accessories from the designer’s personal ‘treasure’ trove including a typewriter from the 60s. In the background, listen to the the lull of 30s Chinese classics and a unique floral scent as you enter the premises of this 4 year old made-in-Singapore chinoiserie luxury label, owned and founded by local up and coming fashion designer Vivienne Lin.
Her collection this season is titled “Portrait Of a Lady” and features classic and feminine silhouettes with the use of lush fabric to enhance the figure. With a Grace Kelly-ish appeal, the collection includes feminine suits with ribbons, rose bud sleeves and scallops in cheerful shades of peach, grey, blue, pistachio and cream in cotton linen and matching lace skirts, to beaded silk cardigans, to cocktail lace numbers in luxurious French lace and splendid made to order gowns with intricate lace detailing on extravagant amounts of duchess satin.
Even casual outfits like flocked lace camisoles have strips of cut out flocked lace meticulously sewn onto the neckline, straps and hem of the top, with well tailored straight leg pants. Look out for pieces with ladylike sleeves paired with cinched waists, knee length skirts and low back dresses with meticulously hand sewn flowers.
The collection revives the hourglass silhouette paired with sophisticated sexiness by showing off a hint of skin, a lady’s alluring collar bone and the back. However, subtle oriental influences can still be seen in a French lace dress with a cheongsam silhouette and the daring use of black lace on red gown.
Vivienne also makes bespoke shoes to match, complete with the label’s signature feminine accents – ribbons, lace, handmade tulle petals and precious coloured Swarovskis in rare settings imported from France.
