Be A Part Of Tangs History!
Do you remember shopping with your mum at Tangs when you were a little girl? I do .. in a time when the store was called C.K Tang and the Marriot chain which now runs the Hotel adjoining it, was called “The Dynasty Hotel” and it looked like a pagoda rather than a hotel? Sweet memories of a childhood where Orchard Road was young and affordable.
Well, if you want to be a part of history, in particular Tangs history, the Department store has commissioned a book about its history and early years. The Agency (SHYALALA) looking for materials for this book has appealed to Simply Fab readers to send in old stories, thank you notes, memorabilia, photos and memories of any precious memories you may have had shopping at Tangs (with you and loved ones) or even pictures taken in or outside the store or even of things that you once bought from the store that have become ‘vintage’ today. You may even know an ex-employee in your family who worked there and remembered the Tang family then or has a story to share…priceless memories.
If you remember any of significant trips, campaigns that thrilled you and great buys that left a lasting impression for you and your family, we want to hear about them! Did your grandparents buy you something from there? Scan those photographs, postcards and stories with the subject title “SIMPLYFAB-TANGS” and send them to trina@shyalala.com by 15 November 2011.
Some examples of what the Agency are looking for include:
Street views of Orchard Road, River Valley Road, Prinsep Street and Arab Street from the 20s to 50s of the location (preferably of people doing something in the foreground)
Old street signs and pictures of transport then including rickshaw pullers
Old currency photos (coins and notes) used in Singapore in that era.
In your submission, do consider mentioning a short background of the photo, 1950s to 2000
- Do provide the year it was taken, any occasion.
- Mention the names of your family members if you want.. like a caption
- Any old items that bought in the past and still using? Take a photo of it and email it in high resolution or scan it and email it to us.
In short share how 79 years of Tangs have touched Singapore and your lives…
