Chefs Turn Rockstars For Charity
This is such a scream! On 14 March, six prominent chefs in Singapore will put aside their toques and aprons and turn rockstars for just one night in the name of charity! The FIJI Water Rockstar Chefs Charity Concert to be held at the Hard Rock Café, Resorts World Sentosa, will feature two rock bands, Burnt Sauce and The Munchies, made up of pretty familiar names.
Leading The Munchies is Christian Bruhns, the Executive Chef of St Regis Singapore, with Dan Segall, chef and owner of ‘Chu, and dessert whiz Pang Kok Keong, chef and owner of the Sugar Daddy Group. They’ll be rocking out three numbers from U2, White Stripes and Lenny Kravitz. Cool, huh? Chef Bruhns will be bass guitarist for The Munchies, Chef Pang is drummer and Chef Segall will be – woah! – lead vocalist, guitarist and deejay! On the team’s band name, Chef Bruhns says, “We wanted a band name that was both easy to remember and associated with what we do. The Munchies has a swinging sound to it and as chefs, we hardly have proper mealtimes so we do munch a lot on the job!”
The other band, Burnt Sauce, is led by Sandro Falbo, the Executive Chef of Hilton Singapore, who will be joined by Reynaldo Arriola, Sous Chef of The Halia, and Christopher Smith, Executive Sous Chef of the Marriot Hotel Singapore. They’ll be performing three songs too, from Hoobastank, The Beatles and Green Day. Chef Falbo will be drummer, Smith will play bass guitar and Singaporean chef Reynaldo Arriola is lead vocalist who’ll also play the keyboard. Why ‘Burnt Sauce’ when they really shouldn’t? “When we think of food, we realise that sauce is essential in creating a good dish,” says Chef Falbo.“The word ‘burnt’ just popped up and we kept it since it offers an interesting twist!”
They can cook and croon – what more do you want?! Expect a really good time seeing these chefs in a way you’ve never seen before!
All proceeds from The FIJI Water Rockstar Chefs Charity Concert will go to The Little Arts Academy which aims to provide equal opportunities for less privileged children between 5 and 19 years old to be exposed to the arts and to explore their artistic talents. (Awww. So sweet!)
These nice guys will be taking time off from their kitchens to practise with instructors at the Thunder Rock School. And to make sure all goes well, they’ll be joined by three of the school’s best instructors who will to perform alongside the two bands. It promises to be a load of fun, and a really good cause worth supporting. Top marks for effort!
