Chiang Kai Shek Gives Nod To Presidential Fish

On the day of Singapore’s presidential elections, it seems perfect for us at SimplyFab to run this presidential story!

Last week, Taiwan’s Fleur de Chine Hotel was graced by the late President Chiang Kai-shek who was invited back to life to taste 12 dishes made with the local Presidential Fish. He was very pleased with the food and kept praising the dish, adding that he had not visited Sun Moon Lake for more than two decades. He went on to declare that dining on the Presidential Fish at Fleur de Chine is a must for every visitor.

Errrrm…Something doesn’t sound right?

Well, the late president is still late, and the gentleman pictured is actually Mr Li Dengke, a Chiang Kai-Shek lookalike who gamely played the part and gave the thumbs up to the fish dish. Seems like this stunt was carried out by the hotel to mark the relaunch of its restaurants and upgrading of its guestrooms.

Located at Taiwan’s famous scenic spot, Sun Moon Lake, Fleur de Chine Hotel has introduced 12 dishes using the ‘presidential’ fish at its newly refurbished restaurant, Jade Luminous.

How does Chiang Kai Shek fit in? Sun Moon Lake’s precious Qu Yao fish was often used by local aboriginal tribes in celebratory feasts. It was a favorite food of Taiwan’s late president Chiang Kai-shek who had to have it every time when he visited Sun Moon Lake.  And so the locals coined the fish the ‘President Fish’.
