Escape to Sarojin for Christmas
Not into battling the turkey or handling family reunions this Christmas? The best thing to do is runaway. Our suggestion? The Sarojin in Phuket’s Kao Lak beach, a multi award-winning boutique beach resort with its own 11km stretch of private beach, and which specialises in over-the-top personalised experiences.
The three-day escapade kicks off with carols on Christmas Eve sung by children from the local Ban Tham Namchai orphanage, many of whom were survivors of the Asian Tsunami in 2004. Then you potter off to a five-course Christmas Eve dinner under the stars around an illuminated ficus tree, overlooking the lotus pond in the resorts grounds. After that, everyone is invited to release a kom loy (spirit lantern) to carry their seasonal wishes, thoughts or prayers into the night’s sky!
While you laze on the beach on Christmas Day or spa out, the festivities bring on a Seafood BBQ in the evening where you dine on the hotel’s private beach and be entertained by live acoustic music.
If you fancy a bit more luxe, the hotel – which specialises in customising, private blow-me-away experiences – can arrange a private snorkeling cruise aboard its luxurious private yacht, Lady Sarojin (left), to the Similan Islands – one of the top 10 dive sanctuaries in the world – or do a Christmas feast on your own private island or by a waterfall, surrounded by burning torches and candles flickering in the moonlight (right).
Prices for the Christmas packages are decent, starting from THB 30,400 (US$ 980 per person for 3 nights) including accommodation in a Garden Residence, all day daily à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine for two people, private airport transfers both ways, Christmas Eve Degustation dinner and Christmas Day BBQ celebration and all taxes. They are offering a similar Chinese New Year package from THB 30,600 (US$990 per person for 3 nights). The only downside is, no kids allowed here age 10 and under.
