Give Back To The Kids

Happy Thanksgiving! Whilst this is not a traditional Asian celebration I always feel that there is so much to be thankful for. And in the spirit of giving because we first received, it is perhaps time that we do something for the less fortunate at this time of the year. My heart always goes out to the kids and there are two events that you could make a night out of as well as use as an opportunity to give back to.

KAREN KIDS CHRISTMAS CHARITY CONCERT

28 November, 7:30pm

Held at St John’s Cathedral do go soak in the atmosphere at the KAREN Kids Society’s (KKS) annual charity Christmas Concert. This year’s theme is “A Celebration Of Life’ and features internationally renowned pianist Maki Namwekawa from Japan and soprano Elizabeth Freundlinger from Austria. This unforgettable evening of classical music and cocktails under the stars will definitely put you in a festive mood and all proceeds from the concert will go to KKS with part of the year’s funds going towards supporting children affected by the Japanese Tsunami in the Otsuchi-cho area of Japan.

DRINK UP AND SUPPORT THE HONOUR VILLAGE CAMBODIAN ORPHANS

8 December, 7 to 10pm

Solas is organising a one-night event on 8 December from 7 to 10pm donating all proceeds from the drinks during this period towards the Honour Village Cambodian Orphanage as part of their Festive Fund Raising Initiative. The night spot has organised a host of celebrity bartenders for that evening who will tend bar.

Honour Village is run by local staff with expert volunteers in Hong Kong, America and the UK. They protect Cambodian children who are vulnerable or at risk due to the death of one or both parents. Founded originally by Sue Wiggans, a retired Primary School Teacher who sold her home and possessions to establish the charity, she now lives on site as a mentor and guide. It costs US$50,000 to support the initiative each year which works out to about US$90 per child. The aim is to raise as much as possible towards the continued running of this project.
