Haute Couture and Womens Fashion Week Singapore 2012
If you’re in a fashion rut, there’s loads of inspiration coming up this November with the second Women’s Fashion Week Singapore. Leg it over to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands 23-25 November, and see the season’s latest ready-to-wear looks and the Fall/Winter 2012/13 collections of international labels. Open to the public for free, it’s a ‘must attend’ for both up-to-the-minute fashionistas and lost souls seeking direction out of their wardrobe warzone.
Haute Couture Week swings round 29 Nov – 2 Dec. People are raving about it because when it started last year, Singapore was the first city outside Paris to showcase designers who were either haute couturiers or members of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
Heading our way are couturiers Bouchra Jarrar, Julien Fournié (above), Maurizio Galante, On Aura Tout Vu (below), Yiqing Yin who are debuting here. Three others are making a return appearance – Christophe Josse, Gustavo Lins and Alexis Mabillie.
An invite-only affair, designs promise to “challenge the status quo and norms of what are traditionally acknowledged as acceptable,” says Frank Cintamani, Chairman of Women’s Fashion Week and Haute Couture Week 2012 Singapore. “They break perceptions and convention by using radical, unusual or even old and antique materials….”.
And from what SimplyFab saw at the media sneak preview recently, it was fascinating. Pretty challenging….but fascinating.
And finally on 28 November, Asian Couturiers will present Japanese Couture Showcase featuring three of Japan’s most respected designers – Junko Shimada, Somarta, a leading rising star in the Japanese fashion scene, and Yumi Katsura who has been creating fabulous wedding dresses for years.
