HK’s Ocean Park Launches New Thrills

So here’s another reason to jostle with the crowds at Ocean Park this year and that is the opening of Thrill Mountain, a new zone with 6 new rides, 8 games booths, merchandise and food that also allow you a sweeping and panoramic view of the South China Sea in the South, Deep Water Bay to East and Aberdeen to the West . The main attraction in this zone would be the Hair Raiser Roller Coaster literally because riders experience an acceleration of 4.0G with their feet dangling in the air. It travels up to 88 km per hour and is the fastest amongst the roller coaster rides in Hong Kong.

The other rides to try are the Whirly Bird, an aerial swing ride that overlooks Ocean Park and the beautiful South China Sea beyond. Seated in vehicles that accommodate two riders at a time, guests can even play the role of aviators by manipulating a joystick to lift or dip their vehicle as if it were a vintage plane. Also the Rev Booster which is a ride with passengers seated in cars connected in a circle, moving in forward and backward directions along an undulating track. The ride generates tremendous body-twisting centrifugal force, while strong musical rhythms drive sudden reversals in direction.

And then there are the Bumper Blasters, a good old fashioned and traditional bumper car ride that promises rollicking fun and for the slightly braver amongst us, the Bungee Trampoline which offers a gravity-defying thrill. Finally there is The Flash, a pendulum-style mechanical ride that launched in November 2010 as the first ride in Thrill Mountain. Boasting a maximum swinging height of 22 meters, a G-force of 3.9G and a top speed of 60km/hour, the Flash swings you whilst you are seated inside a gondola, which is itself rotating at a full 360°.

Also as part of their Christmas Sensation festivities which run from now to 2 January 2012, there is a nightly Light Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Light Show, a brand new Christmas spectacular presented on the Lagoon. The Waterfront Plaza which has been transformed into Nutcracker Christmas City – a life-sized toy town with a  40-foot tall Christmas tree, a giant lollipop and a 3-metre tall Whisker dressed as a nutcracker.

From 17 December, there is also the nightly Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony with Christmastime Carollers. Kids can find out all about life in Santa’s workshop by becoming an elf for a day at Santa’s Elf Secret Factory and finally at Santa’s Christmas Hideaway, guests can have their photographs taken with Santa Claus and watch different performances.
