It’s All In The Eyes

Nevermind the subtle brush of the hand on his sleeve as you pass by, or the suggestive preening to get your message across to that juicy looking man across the room. It’s making eyes that counts, says a study by Johnson and Johnson Vision Care Singapore – something that many smart and sexy women already know and employ. But if you’re in need of a lesson or two, turn on the TV and watch Korean actresses who apparently do it best.

This study polled 200 men and women between 19-39 years old and about 90% say that eyes are ‘critical’ in making a romantic connection. Such eye-to-eye connections, or ‘eye-logues’ as the study calls it, has a powerful impact and ‘make an immediate connection’ regardless of  language barriers. What’s more, 84.7% say that eye-logues between couples add to the mystique of romance and 88.6% agreed that for most people, their eyes express their thoughts and feelings.

According to Training Director Audrey Quek of Audrey Quek Image Consultancy, couples who are in the throes of romance look at each other more intensely. So in the same way, if he’s into you, he’ll look at you that way too. “Typically our eyes sparkle or light up and appear a little larger when we have positive feelings towards our love interest. We use our eyes more and start to become more observant of our loved one’s needs and emotions,” she says.

From this poll, most of the respondents voted Korean actresses as the best ‘eyelogue communicators’ compared to actresses in other Asian countries. So watch closely next time and pick up tips like stolen glances, eye locks and gazes. Wow. I guess it’s called being coy. Time to whip out those traditional Chinese fans and peer above them on a hot day while waiting at the taxi stand. See someone juicy? Hold his gaze for a while before you look away (pretend to be shy at this point) or slide back behind your fan. Instant intrigue! And hey, you never know who you may reel in!
