Mad About Chocolate In HK!
Living within Harbour City Mall in Hong Kong has its benefits. For one, I get a first hand peek at the events happening and I was lucky enough early this morning to see several larger than life raspberry and strawberry macaroons, a humongous macaroon tower and a giant (must have been 15 foot tall) chocolate fountain and a whole fleet of chocolate eclair benches being set up in the mall. It was too good to resist and out came the iphone and my 6 year old who happily posed with her favourite treats. The best time to get photos of anything in Hong Kong is in the early morning or late at night so you can imagine that these were taken at 6:55am before her school bus arrived.
Which brings me to my point – if you are in Hong Kong which I think is the most chocolate-crazed Asian city in the world (judging by the number of chocolate brands that have set up shop here) then you should stop by Harbour City for the 2012 Chocolate Trial, if not for the specially priced chocs at this up coming annual chocolate fair, then for the mere visual feast. Hong Kongers really love their chocolate! Look out for dates and the list of chocolatiers at www.harbourcity.com.hk
And if that does not sufficiently whet your appetite, then you may want to head to Jean-Paul Hevin’s all Parisien “Boutique et Bar a Chocolat” in Lyndhurst Terrace and IFC in Central and Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui where he has created a Chinese Chocol-art tribute for the Year of the Dragon. Try the Chinese New Year Dragon Caraibe, a cocoa bonbon inscribed with a red dragon in vanilla and fruity ganache coated in dark chocolate or a fig and fruity ganache coasted in milk chocolate at HK$20 each, with matching themed gift boxes.
Then there is the Chinese New Year Red and Golden Egg made of rich, dark chocolate and adorned with gold leaf and three golden coins inside packed in a cube box at HK$420 a box. Finally, a Golden Dark Chocolate Coin at HK$15 per piece. See: www.jphevin.com
