Mum-Worthy Superbug & H1N1 Killer
It’s Auntie Time, and for today, let’s look at some statistics shocking enough to freak out the inner auntie in all of us …. 72% of shopping cart handles have been found to be contaminated with fecal bacteria, and the average office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet bowl. There’s 10 times more bacteria indoors than out, and 90% of kitchen cloths contain high levels of illness causing bacteria. Where am I getting at?
Well, this bag of mom-worthy disinfectants going by the brand Germ Killer appeared on my desk recently, and I am impressed.
Water-based and safe for daily use, it claims to eliminate 99.9999% of harmful micro-organisms. All those decimal numbers mean that it will reduce 1 million microbes to only one. Its flagship product GK Surface is also formulated to be effective against the hospital superbug MRSA and viruses like H1N1 and that which causes Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. This comes in spray bottles (500 ml/$7.90 and 85ml/$5.90) and wipes. There’s also GK Concentrate ($18.90/2 litres) which can be used for washing kitchen towels and sponges, cleaning toys (no rinse necessary), mopping floors and on laundry. It’s got a high dilution rate of 1:40 so it’s economical too.
Made by home grown Vance Chemicals, a manufacturer of premium cleaning products, the GermKiller (GK) range of disinfects was initially available only to industrial customers like childcare centres, airlines, and hospitals, etc internationally. Now for the first time, it’s been formulated and packaged for retail. The way I see it, if it’s good enough for serious users, it should be pretty darn effective for my humble little home. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll clip the purse under my armpit and shuffle over to my nearest NTUC to get me some of this wondrous ambrosia!
Available in Singapore at leading supermarkets.
