SimplyFab’s Christmas Notebook- Takeaways

If you want the party but not the work, get the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore’s Traditional Honey Glazed Gammon Ham Dinner ($186, or about $23 per person! ). Enough for eight, it includes boneless Honey and Clove Glazed Leg of Gammon Ham (2kg), Chestnut, Apple and Celery Stuffing, Roasted Vegetables, Pumpkin, Carrots, Onion , Squash , Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce and Natural Gravy. Add in a sweet treat like the Classic Nougat Log Cake ($60), or the Manjari Chocolate Mousse with Salted Butter Caramel and Crunchy Hazelnut Feuillantine ($80) for dessert and all that’s left to do is shake up your own martinis! Goodwood Park Hotel’s Asian-inspired Christmas takeaways are also great for cheating hostesses. We like the Local Christmas Combo ($260, for 12 people) of poached soy sauce turkey with tau kwa and fragrant rice (top), turkey satay, D24 Durian log cake and the Decorate Your Own Gingerbread Christmas Bell, which is a kit of four ‘bells’ and decorations to keep party goers occupied. Each component is also available a la carte. Other bits we like are the roasted pork rack with potato gratin and apple sauce ($288 for 10 people), and the lovely dark choc log cake with mango, passionfruit and chocolate sable – a lovely combination of rich chocolate and tangy fruit which really works! Another good choice are their funky mini designer Christmas cakes (right), gorgeous lovelies at an extravagant $16.80 a piece. The Deli Tel: 67301867

If you’re tired of turkey, get Pan Pacific Singapore’s takeaway of Australian Murray Bridge Pasture-fed Ribeye ($248 for 3 kg) With Herb Pepper Crust, Pinot Noir Glaze & Forest Mushroom Cream  or its Limited-edition Bourbon Ham With Spiced Apricot Chutney ($65 for 1 kg), perfect for a cosy dinner party. Dessert from there just has to be the cute little Christmas Chocolate Tree with Macaroons and Pralines ($60).

Bakerzin is the go-to place for getting impressive desserts that taste as good as they look. Of all their sweet and savoury offerings this Christmas, our picks are the chocolatey Log of Good Cheer ($52) a rum and hazelnut feuilletine log cake with crunchy wafers, covered with melted dark chocolate and rum and recently declared absolutely fab; and the boozy White Chocolate Liquor Truffle Tree ($54 / 23cm high) made of 63 white truffles filled with Pink Champagne, Brandied Cherries, Rum and Whisky. Order them from the shops or online at www.bakerzin.com three days in advance.

How about individual 3D cakes that would make your guests go ‘wow’? We like Hilton Singapore’s Red Christmas Ball Tree (left), an indulgent spherical cake filed with lemon orange cream and raspberry yuzu jelly coated with red coloured chocolate. Inside are’s raspberries and fruits mixed with fresh cream. Very lux!  Or there’s the Darkness Chocolate Candle (top) made of dark choc mousse and rice crispies. On a more mainstream note, there’s also the Matcha Yule Log filed with green tea mousse and chestnut cream. It sounds safe, indeed, but tastes really good. Not too sweet, but very sophisticated and with a rich Asian touch.  Checkers Deli, Lobby Level tel: 67303332.
