THIS WEEKEND – Friday Art Market & Drinks!
This Friday marks the first weekend after Singapore’s national exams, the dreaded PSLE, and it will be time for affected mothers (and long suffering kids) to finally heave a well-earned sigh of relief! Good news is, SimplyFab has just the balm for you – Go Maad on Friday night, 7 October!
No really – go Maad, inclusive of the two ‘a’s.
It really is just the thing to start the weekend – a little light-hearted fun, shopping and drinky-poo’s in the evening, wholesome enough for you to bring the kiddies and even pets along. From 5pm to midnight, the red dot design museum will be the venue for MAAD (Market of Artists And Designers), a monthly creative night festival which promises no uppity ‘chi-chi’-ness. Let your hair down, relax, be yourself and enjoy over 60 thematic displays and creative works by the local artistic community. There are also live music performances and a spot of shopping to support local upstarts.
And then there’s Tok Gong Wine Bar, a guerrilla wine bar that pops up at different places at different times! You never know where you’ll see it next…but on 7 October, it will also go MAAD at the red dot. Run by KOT Selections, a wine import and distribution company, the pop-up bar will be offering a selection of wines by the glass (S$10 each!) drawn from KOT’s extensive portfolio. The nice people from KOT will also be there to present the wines, and chat with you about all things vinous and share tales about the winegrowers. You’ll have to put in a deposit of $5 for a glass, so after they’ve poured you the wine, you can hang on to it and waft around the exhibits and stalls sipping elegantly, before you return for more. (The $5 will go back to you after you’ve returned their glass in one piece.) We really like what KOT’s managing partner Ong YiXin says, “We are very excited by the opportunity to reach out to a completely different audience at MAAD. Even if wine cannot be free, it should be democratic.”
