Timberland’s Rugged Chic
I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of what I call Timberland’s rather clunky boot collection this Fall. I can see them doing extremely well if one lived in a country where there is a ‘wilderness’ to explore or if you lived on a ranch. Ok call me biased but the word stylish still belongs to Steve Madden any day although Ee Waun would argue with me and say that they would not last half as long.
So when she passed on their Earthkeeper’s Footwear Collection release for Fall 2011, I looked at the descriptions of ‘rugged chic’ and looked outside my window at the concrete jungle that I live in and asked myself what I would seriously buy if I was given carte blanche and was not a horse whisperer, cowboy or alien. And then my eyes fell on these (below)- a pair of sporty Pinkham Notch Leather Mary Janes.
Sporty and sassy, these lightweight and convenient nubuck leather slip-on/offs with a Mary Jane inspiration have an anti-fatigue technology to provide women with the support they need. They provide exceptional standing comfort, supposedly reduce fatigue and minimise footfall pressure returning the energy to your feet. The mesh lining is also made from 100% recycled PET recycled plastic bottles and the shoe has a rubber overlay for abrasion resistance. Now that’s a winner in my books – as in Hong Kong, without a car and only the MTR on hand, all I really do is walk and go for foot reflexology after (not necessarily in the same order).
And whilst this is no Manolo Blahnik, it makes a very decent pair of traveling shoes that come in Grey, Violet, and Taupe. Only S$139 if you are buying comfort and getting them from Singapore. Now that’s what I call ‘rugged chic’ for a concrete jungle explorer.
