Too Chicken To Try Pole Dancing?

If like me, you’re fascinated by the idea of pole dancing, but can’t imagine ever trying your hand at it, maybe this is something that lets you explore it without having to participate…yet. In other words, a softly-softly, chicken-hearted peek into the world of pole dancing.  Here’s what I mean. Most places would give you a trial class, but that means that once you step in for your trial, you’ll still have to reach out, hold the pole and participate, no matter how rudimentary. Most chickens like me would rather just cower in a corner and watch first.

So there’s Bobbi’s Pole Studio, which recently opened in Singapore, branding themselves as ‘Singapore’s premier pole studio’. While they do teach classes, the news is they have also started pole dancing performances – aka cabaret – throughout September. Two shows per evening every Friday and Saturday night at TAB, live entertainment venue, restaurant and bar in Orchard Road.

Called Bobbi’s Babes in Cabaret, the show promises outrageous costumes, and feats of strength and acrobatics around the pole. According to Linna Tan, director and principal instructor at Bobbi’s Pole Studio Singapore, it’s going to be ‘sensual, cheeky and fun’. “The cabaret is a great opportunity to stage pole as a performance art. Pole is about combining athletic strength with acrobatic grace and we’ll bring both together into a powerful and entertaining show,” she says.

Good to know: Linna is one of the cabaret’s choreographers, and was responsible for bringing pole to Singapore in 2005 for the first time. Bobbi, the founder of Bobbi’s Pole Studio in Australia is a trained Cabaret Showgirl who lived and performed in Tokyo before moving to Sydney. She is also a choreographer of the cabaret. The studio also teaches pole dancing, lap dancing, strip tease and all manner of exotic moves by professionally trained instructors.

See the pictures? Go catch the show. Meanwhile, errr….I think I’ll stick to running for a work out…. :)

Tickets are $20 for the girls and $25 for the guys, inclusive of one drink.
