Want A Parent-Friendly Luxe Out? This Is It!

I just love the InterContinental Bali Resort! At one stage, we were descending on this Jimbaran beach resort on every conceivable opportunity like locusts to a cornfield. Over the last 7 years, I think I have been there around 12 times. I have lost count. I have brought friends and family there, and some have become regulars too. Always stay in the executive club rooms – the experience is amazing.

The butler service is friendly and immensely attentive, the spa is heavenly and it’s a truly beautiful resort:  six pools and countless water features, six restaurants and a gorgeously wide, sweeping private beach and lots of space to space out in.

A big plus for me is how the InterContinental Bali have got parents all figured out. A truly parent friendly resort, they take care of the kids with one of the most impressive levels of security I have ever come across so parents have complete peace of mind. They engage the kids with ever changing activities so your tots are happy, and their purpose-built kids’ club – very spacious and with its own private swimming pool and women only staff (including life guard) – is open until 10pm….one of the longest operating hours among the kids clubs I have come across. They are great with kids. My daughter gets her own welcome letter from the hotel whenever we arrive – handwritten and with her name on it, a cap and a special invitation to join the kids club. That really makes her feel welcome, and that she counts!

They know how to keep the children happy and out of your hair with all sorts of interesting activities. Dancing, craft, ball games and tournaments out in the garden, fish feeding, releasing turtles out into the sea (in partnership with some conservation organisation), and at night, movie nights and story-telling.

Meanwhile, they surround the grown-ups with luxurious facilities like an adults-only pool with over-water sala, garden or poolside massage in the garden pavilions, and my favourite, the most generous happy hour (5pm – 8pm) every day featuring an open bar, with any cocktail you care to ask for, loads of bubbly and yummy canapes. This is what I live for. (At no time do you feel you are in one of those awful ‘family friendly’ resorts which usually also mean compromised quality, screaming kids and endless buffet queues and bad manners!)

It’s no wonder that the InterContinental Bali was ranked 3rd best family resort in Bali recently by Australia’s ‘Holidays with Kids’ magazine. Anyways, in line with their parent-friendly ways, the InterContinental Bali is rolling out a Family Time Out package this year end, valid until 31 March 2012. Definitely worth considering for your travel plans for the year end, this package starts from US$265++ per room per night

Upon arrival at the Resort, each child get his own welcome pack containing a turtle backpack, colouring book and pencils. There is also a drinking tumbler that will be filled with juice, milk or soft drinks for free at any restaurant during your stay there. Kids get unlimited access to Planet Trekkers – their kids’ club – including one fun session with one meal for a child, and comp meals from a special kid’s menu when parents dine at selected restaurants at the resort.  Topping it off, it also includes two way airport transfers.

Says my friend PR Manager Dewi Anggraini’s press release: “It’s all about having a relaxing holiday experience in a stylish setting on the island of Bali. Parents will have the opportunity reconnect with their children but also indulge in a well-deserved break.” And because I’ve experienced it so many times, I can vouch that they mean what they say and they are good at this parent-kid holiday thing! If you’re planning a trip for the year end, this is it.
